Maple Leaf Garage has a history that stretches right back to 1902, and the very dawn of the Motor Car itself. Notable proprietors include one Harold Berwick, who was a renowned Humber Works Motorcyclist & Test Rider with extensive Isle of Man TT success. In 1914, Harold enlisted into the Royal Air Corps, serving at Ypres and Somme in the Legendary 20 Squadron – noted as being the most highly decorated Squadron of the Great War, with the famous Red Baron it’s most notable adversary. Following the formation of the RAF in 1918, he then found himself a founding member. After his de-mob, he opened a Motorcycle Showroom on these premises.
Later, in 1946, Maple Leaf Garage was given it’s name by a Canadian Airman. Having flown Wellington Bombers out of Silverstone Airfield during the latter part of the war, he settled here in Daventry and built the current buildings in which we have operated ever since.
